There are 7 guilds or Schächte, 2 of which accept women. Each guild seems to wear a different color. It is estimated that there are at least 800 in Europe in 2010. The ones I met said they weren't supposed to pay for transportation, but on this woodworking website, it looks like a few (much cleaner) Gesellenwanderung made it to Australia and Brazil.
