Bumped into these guys in Christiania. Apparently they are woodworkers who volunteer their skills in exchange for room and board. They wear all black (the color signifies woodworker) corduroy suits and seemed to have dogmatic rules about not paying for food, shelter or transportation, always staying at least some arbitrary distance from home for 3 years and never staying in the same place for more than several weeks. If it matters, I was told most of this story be a Christiania old timer beforewe crossed paths.

I want to believe  this is some sort of White Ribbon-esque medieval tradition that has managed to hang on into the modern era, but think it might be something else...
